WITHERING AWAY OF CONGRESS PARTY
Is ours an ideal democracy!! Hardly so, it is far from being an ideal democracy; where there should be  two equal opponents, like Conservative and Labour party in Britain; like Republican and Democratic party in USA. As for India, for the two major parties here i.e. Congress and BJP there has never been a state of relative equilibrium. There was a time when Congress was all powerful for a long time, BJP had not come into existence then. BJP came into existence and gradually spread its wings and the status now of present election result on 23 May 2019 is that BJP alone bagged 303 seats and 353 seats along with its NDA Alliance. Congress on the other hand could muster only 52 seats; along with UPA, Congress got 91. Other parties won 98 seats. What to talk of equality, Congress party could not win even 55 seats which is the requisite 10 % to become the official opposition. read more...read more...

GANDHIAN MOVEMENT IN WEST ASIA: FATE OF BAHRAIN, ALGERIA AND YEMEN

The inert Indian media should have woken up and told its audiences that the movement in west Asia was a Gandhian one. The western press has referred to it but in muffled undertones. See some excerpts:
“The protesters — trying to stay true to the lessons they had learned from Gandhi, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Gene Sharp — tried for a time to avoid retaliating. A row of men stood silent as rocks rained down on them. An older man told a younger one to put down his stick. “(Dual Uprisings Show Potent New Threats to Arab States Holly Pickett for The New York Times By DAVID D. KIRKPATRICK and DAVID E. SANGER  February 13, 2011)

In the village of Beni Jamar, a few hundred demonstrators gathered behind a large sign displaying three portraits: Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King Jr. and Gandhi. They marched toward the road chanting slogans when without warning, the police charged in, firing a barrage of tear gas and rubber bullets into the crowd. The demonstrators scattered. Martin Luther King Jr. and Gene Sharp find a mention because King won for the African Americans their rights in USA by adopting Gandhian methods while Sharp wrote books about non-violent protests. The reference to Mahatma Gandhi is in the passing only in these pieces, while he is the main inspiration behind the successes of the Tunisian Egyptian revolutions and continues to be so in other Arab and North African countries experiencing the revolutionary ferment.

Shy U.S. Intellectual Created Playbook Used in a Revolution by SHERYL GAY STOLBERG Published: February 16, 2011
“When the nonpartisan International Center on Nonviolent Conflict, which trains democracy activists, slipped into Cairo several years ago to conduct a workshop, among the papers it distributed was Mr. Sharp’s “198 Methods of Nonviolent Action,” a list of tactics that range from hunger strikes to “protest disrobing” to “disclosing identities of secret agents.”

Dalia Ziada, an Egyptian blogger and activist who attended the workshop and later organized similar sessions on her own, said trainees were active in both the Tunisia and Egypt revolts. She said that some activists translated excerpts of Mr. Sharp’s work into Arabic, and that his message of “attacking weaknesses of dictators” stuck with them. “

“Peaceful protest is best, he says — not for any moral reason, but because violence provokes autocrats to crack down. “If you fight with violence,” Mr. Sharp said, “you are fighting with your enemy’s best weapon, and you may be a brave but dead hero.”

“He was struck by the Egyptian protesters’ discipline in remaining peaceful, and especially by their lack of fear. “That is straight out of Gandhi,” Mr. Sharp said. “If people are not afraid of the dictatorship, that dictatorship is in big trouble.”

Al Qaeda perplexed
Creating violence but not succeeding in capturing power anywhere, Al Qaeda must have been surprised to see how brilliantly Gandhian methods succeeded in two countries and are going to succeed in some other countries but not without some bloodletting which happened even in Gandhian movement. Yet, it is clear that Sharp is preaching adulterated Gandhism, with his typical western mind and mixing Machiavellian tactics with Gandhian nobility.

Here is what a political commentator said: “In the wake of peaceful revolutions in Tunisia and Egypt, al Qaeda's argument that violent activism is necessary to achieve political change stands dramatically repudiated.”

Three nations can be discussed here. The Saturn Jupiter opposition on the horoscopes of three nations, Bahrain, Yemen and Algeria shows different axis getting affected. Yemen and Algeria have their two eight axis affected and Mars the violent planet affecting the tenth house, clearly shows the regimes wanting to survive through violent actions but unsuccessfully.

In the case of Algeria it is not a different story but here Saturn also aspects the tenth lord, Sun. In the context of the revolutionary waves in west Asia, the action of the respective government will be something resembling the brutal force used by the British imperialists in the pre-Gandhian era of India’s struggle for freedom. The youth force has given a tremendous dynamism to this revolution and the infusion of Gandhism a sense of confusion and perplexity to the regimes concerned. In 1930, a famous American journalist, Guenther, had written that Mahatma Gandhi had become so powerful that he had only to shake his little finger for the British Empire to collapse but the imperialist bulldog, Winston Churchill, never under stood it till his death in 1965.

“The central, underlying feature of the Middle East's crisis is a massive youth bulge. About 60% of the region's population is under 30. These millions of young people have aspirations that need to be fulfilled, and the regimes in place right now show little ability to do so. The protesters' demands have been dismissed by the regimes as being for Islamic fundamentalism or a product of Western interference.

.........Rattled by recent developments, Kuwait and Bahrain both decided to give all of their citizens’ bonuses this year ($3,000 in Kuwait, $2,700 in Bahrain).

Those payments are a reminder that in the Middle East, there are two modes of control: mass repression and mass bribery.

BAHRAIN
The most dangerous feature of the horoscope of Bahrain is the aspect of Mars on the tenth house and tenth lord and the double affliction to the tenth lord, Sun, by Saturn and Mars. The majority Shia population will succeed in upsetting the Sunni ruler after receiving help from some neighboring country which could be Shia Iran.

Bahrain: Jupiter Saturn Jupiter from 3 Jan 2011 to 7 May 2011. It is dasha chiddra. In Jaimini it is the chara dasha of Makar Dhanu from 13 Aug 2010 to 14 April 2011. Atmakaraka (Sun) and Amatyakaraka (Venus) fall in the eighth house from Dhanu.

At any rate, the King will be entirely dependent on the army for his survival so long as he survives. He himself must be taking the help of a neighboring country as is clear from the horoscope.

In the absence of the horoscope of the king, all that can be predicted is till May 2011, Bahrain will suffer from death pangs and then the government will undergo a serious transformation in 2011 itself.

Algeria
The third government in the area which is likely to undergo a change violently, unlike Tunisia and Egypt is, Algeria.

Algeria: Venus-Rahu-Rahu 19 Feb 2011 to  2 Aug 2011 is the period of danger.

The tenth lord, Venus in the twelfth house and the aspect of Saturn from the sixth house is hardly a happy indication for the survival of Bouteflika. For some time Bouteflika may try to stave if off through army help, as Mars here indicates but as soon as the Rahu pratyantar dasha starts (it has) and before it ends, (in September 2011) Bouteflika should flee the country to save himself or (depending on his horoscope) he will be killed.

Yemen: Venus-Mercury-Moon 6 Nov 2010 to 31 Jan 2011. But the Rahu pratyantar from April to September 2011 seems to be the period of explosive change.

A more detailed analysis will be made in a week’s time in a workshop on mundane astrology. As global citizens we must remember that most of the regimes of west Asia are allies of USA and the west and will be anxious to keep away Islamists who will rise in any case as this horoscope show. That will be analyzed later but it is necessary to warn here that rise of fundamentalism, and militancy with religious tinge is visible in the horoscopes of most of the west Asian countries. The small group of modernizers will have a shrill voice and minor participation in the sweep of tidal wave of fundamentalism in west Asia --it can be seen and hinted at only till deeper analysis is done.
