TRAILANGA SWAMI - II
In 1810, Raja of Ujjain paid a visit to Kashi. He along with Kashi Naresh, was on a boat going towards Manikarnika ghat when he saw the shining figure of Swami sitting on water. On inquiry, he was told about the extra ordinary powers of the saint. The King was very impressed and as if sensing his wish to see him, Swami appeared on the boat. The King was glad and showed his extra ordinary bejeweled sword to him. The saint did not even think for a moment and threw the sword in water. When the King got in a fit of rage and grief, Swami put his hand in water and extracted two similar swords from the water. He asked the King to recognize his sword, which he obviously could not do. Swami told him sternly that he was troubled for the sword when he could not even recognize which one was his sword. That was his way to show him the futility of the physical attractions of the world. read more...read more...
JALLIANWALA BAGH MASSACRE
One year more than a century has passed, still no one has forgotten the brutality with which the atrocious killing at Jallianwala Bagh was carried out. Jallianwala Bagh is located at a distance of barely one and a half kilometers from the Golden Temple in Amritsar. On 13 Apr 1919, on the day of Baisakhi (an important Hindu festival) at 5:37 in the evening, when more than 10,000 people (some say there were 15,000 to 20,000) were gathered in the Jallianwala Bagh, acting Brigadier-General Reginald Dyer ordered to shoot at the unarmed, innocent public.

SPORTS PREDICTIONS AND THE ACCURACY OF HINDU ASTROLOGY

(Kush Singh, the writer is an MBA from Leeds Univsity in UK, a keen astrologer and now based in London. He come from a dignified Rajput family of kings and politicians. He has covered sports with his deep knowledge for some English newspapers of England)

The biggest criticism for astrology has
come from the so called neo rationalists who have termed astrology as a medium of escapism and negative thought. The group of people who have attacked astrology have been those who have questioned the validity of the science with regard to the success rate of the predictions. The time has come now when genuine astrologers must attack these neo rationalists with regard to their scientific predictions.

Let us begin with the climate and
weather forecasts. The Met offices all over the world fail to accurately predict the climate and weather conditions year after year. They have all the required devices, latest state of the art equipment, highly qualified researchers and still it is a disaster when it comes to forecasting. In spite of their poor record, they remain highly motivated when it comes to having respect from society and they are hailed as intellectuals.

On the contrary, look at the limitations of
an astrologer as a forecaster.

For starters, they
have to depend on the birth time which is not always accurate. Then look at the appalling resources available to them. Of course, the astrological community must happily put their hand up and accept that there is a large number of quack astrologers, with no moral or technical power but that is a dilemma faced by every community the most prominent amongst them being doctors.

The biggest handicap is the lack
of self respect for an astrologer in society. It is a very nerve racking situation for the genuine astrologer and hardly motivating. Against this backdrop let us look at a recent prediction and let us appreciate the greatness of the science that is astrology.

In September 2007, it was predicted that
the Roger Federer era would end. Let us spare a thought and look at the courage behind the prediction.

" Roger was still the number one player
as per the WTA rankings when this prediction was made.

" Followers of tennis would know that Roger's strong in the second half of the
Grand Slam season beginning with grass. So it was not a case of predicting during a time when Roger was expected to fare badly.

" The first major grand slam to be played after the prediction was French Open and it was not that Roger was defeated, but instead he was mauled. " Roger never lost so badly at clay and the prediction about the beginning of his end becomes more respectable "

But the beauty of the prediction came on grass on which Roger is king. Suddenly he lost his supremacy and weaknesses began
to creep in his grass court play.

On both occasions his opponent was Nadal. Look at the limitations of the astrologer. We do not even have the horoscope of Nadal.

It is the greatness of astrology that such
predictions are possible to make even when we don't have any information about both contestants in a sporting contest.

For budding astrologers
it is a lesson in the importance of the dasha chiddra and as soon as the dasha changed we could see the changes. The forehands going wide and the volleys going in the net.

However, we must also notice the period
of Mercury in the twelfth house, sure it is that of retirement but what about Roger the businessman. Mercury is the 2nd and 11th lord.

For now, can we just sit back and marvel at the
accuracy of astrology and its superb power to predict.

Yes, there are dirty and murky astrologers
who give the subject a bad name just like the doctor who operates on the wrong leg by default.

Where are the so called neo intellectual
scientists with their repeatedly flop predictions? Bring them on.
